Project: Feasibility study for the HFO conversion of Malé power station

Services: Preparation of a study covering technical feasibility, environmental aspects and the commercial viability, including:
  • data collection
  • evaluation of the actual installation
  • development of the most suitable technical concept for the conversion of the power plant / engines to operate on HFO under consideration of environmental aspects and the power supply for the new fuel treatment house via a new 11/0.4kV 630 kVA substation including ~ 2000 m MV and LV underground cable
  • financial analysis
Details: All generating sets as listed below at Malé Power Station were designed for operation on marine gas oil (MGO). In accordance with the technical and financial as well as environmental outcome of the study it was recommended to convert only the diesel gen-sets No. 6 & 7 (2 x 6.5 MW) to operate on heavy fuel oil (HFO). The installed diesel generating sets are as follows:
  • 3 x 6 cyl. in line engines with 2.15 MW each
  • 1 x 12 cyl. V engine with 4.32 MW
  • 1 x 16 cyl. V engine with 5.69 MW
  • 2 x 18 cyl. V engine with 6.5 MW each
